So today is the 248th anniversary of colonists from England declaring their independence from being ruled by a king. You would have to chuckle at the irony of the Supreme Court this week announcing that a sitting President is immune from any activities he takes in office. This power is frightening. The current President is against it. Like one of the Justices stated in her profound rejection of the notion of official immunity, “I dissent.” leaving out the time honored rhetorical courtesy ‘respectfully.’ This current SCOTUS is definitely out of whack.

What amazes me is that the less radical side has taken the conservative approach. Laissez faire. Leave it alone. This respectful tenor comes on the heels of a president who is showing signs of mental and physical weakness - more physical than mental. The ruling by SCOTUS has been given out. The Democrats are crying ‘foul’ (correctly so) but have missed the boat. Our current President has been given the power to imprison his political opponent, for any reason. Hmmm, aren’t we as a nation currently trying to judicate a treasonous revolt and the overthrow of the government orchestrated by the man currently running against our current President? Given what I have heard (not read - I am neither a lawyer or a constitutional scholar!) can’t good ‘ol Joe legally lock up his predecessor? Seems logical, even if it is unethical. In this case, seeing the country is basically in a constitutional crisis as well as an extremely serious threat to its very existence, unethical sounds minor.

The Republicans seem to want to have an Autocrat who says he wants to be a Dictator to whom the Supreme Court has just given the powers of a King. 248 years ago this experiment was launched to try to create a truly democratic, unauthoritarian and non-monarchical society. A few years later, the convention of these rebels set up a Constitution of by-laws to control misdeeds by the populations. In that, freedom of religion was affirmed, yet with the caveat of a separation of religious interference in matters of national concern - common key known as separation of church and state. Recently, the august body who previously had the respect of much of the nation, has acquiesced to antiquated principals that the body politic is not capable of maintaining a society and a more puritanical approach to government should be the guide. It seems beyond normal belief that a group of 9 people can control what a woman decides is best for her body. When the majority of those currently 9 humans decide a course of action, our Constitution fails. There is no higher power that can overturn a bad ruling by this band of human beings. And has been proven in the past, they have ever erred. But it takes many, many decades before they realize their errors. Recently, they have decided to correct supposed errors not based on reason or fact, but by political and somewhat religious motivations. So much for church and state. They have become a human god. And what the lords giveth, the lords have the right to take the away. Or so it seems.

Told ya I was opinionated! Don’t shoot the messenger - only the President now can do that legally!

Happy Independence Day to all! Enjoy it while you have it.
